I have always suffered from body dysmorphia, and always try to hide any imperfections behind clothing to make myself feel more “normal.” I look at social media and see the beauty standards and try to fit them. My series of oil paintings focuses on nude forms expressing the nude body to gain a better understanding of what “normal” truly is. I purposely used gestural brush strokes to emphasize these shapes within the various compositions. The different colors represent a specific aura the body emits when an emotion or action is being expressed. The tunnel-like spatial environment allows the figures to seem as if they are falling or rising out of frame. Many organic and geometric shapes come together to form a “normal,” imperfect, human body with all of its natural curves.
